Detailed Guide For Passengers Travelling From CSMIA

Mumbai’s CSMIA provides a seamless departure experience for all travellers. This guide outlines essential information on check-in procedures, security screening, immigration, customs, and baggage regulations to ensure a smooth journey.

Baggage Regulations

Passengers must follow guidelines on items allowed onboard. If an X-ray scan does not clearly show the contents, security may conduct a visual search of carry-on and checked baggage. Cooperation with security personnel is mandatory. Electronic items like laptops and mobile phones may require additional screening. Passengers should place electronics and metallic items, such as keys and coins, in a separate tray during security checks.

Hand Baggage:

As per the latest BCAS guidelines, each passenger is allowed to carry only one handbag weighing a maximum of 7 kg with dimensions not exceeding 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. In addition to this, they may carry a laptop bag, a ladies’ handbag, an overcoat, rug, blanket, or wrap, a camera or binoculars, reading material for the flight, and infant food along with a carrying basket.

  • Hand baggage allowance differs by airline. Passengers should check with their airline for specific limits. Power banks are only allowed in hand baggage.
  • Satellite phones and drones are not permitted in hand or checked baggage.

Guidelines for Liquids/Aerosols/Gels:

For security reasons, there are restrictions on carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) on flights:

  • Each container must not exceed 100 milliliters.
  • Containers larger than 100 milliliters are not allowed.
  • During security screening, passengers must remove LAGs from their bags and place them separately in a tray.
  • All LAGs must be packed in clear, resealable plastic bags.

Immigration

  • After security screening, passengers must proceed to Immigration.
  • Immigration checks are conducted for all passengers, both Indian and foreign nationals, at both arrival and departure.
  • Passports are stamped upon arrival and departure. Passengers should ensure their passport is stamped before leaving the immigration counter.
  • Passengers must present valid travel documents, including a passport and visa (if required), for immigration clearance.
  • If an immigration stamp is missing, passengers should immediately contact the AFRRO/ FRO/ SSP to get it affixed to avoid issues during future travel.

Customs

Customs Helpdesk / Declaration Counter:

After Immigration, passengers must go to the Customs Declaration Counter before proceeding to the boarding gates. Customs officials usually do not inspect or stamp baggage unless required for a specific reason or a random check.

Important Points for Departure from India:

Passengers carrying high-value items, such as jewellery, must obtain an export certificate to avoid customs duties when re-importing them.

Physical verification is required to get this certificate.

For jewellery export certificates, passengers must visit the Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre (PCCC) in Bandra-Kurla Complex before departure. For assistance, passengers may contact the Deputy/ Assistant Commissioner (PCCC) at 022 26754000.

Indian residents may carry up to INR. 25,000 in Indian currency.

Carrying INR 500 to Nepal and Bhutan is not allowed; only INR. 100 or smaller denominations are permitted.

There is no limit on the amount of foreign exchange Indian residents can carry if issued by an RBI-authorised dealer. However, foreign currency exceeding US $5,000 (or equivalent) in cash or a total foreign exchange amount exceeding US $10,000 (or equivalent) must be declared at the Customs Counter.

Tourists and NRIs can take foreign currency out of India, but only up to the amount brought in.
